When we took out our mortgage we were told over the phone by the Northern Rockrep that the PPI
was 'compulsory.' So we took it out at approx £25 per month.
A few years down the road and after all the publicity of ppi miss-selling we check out policy and discover that it wouldn't have paid out anyway in the case of redundancyas my severance package would be too generous.
I contacted Northern Rock, cancelled the policy and wrote to them asking for a refund.
I told them that I was sold the ppi because I was told that I had to have it.
After 2 months Northern Rock replied refusing my claim and enclosing documents with my signature, and a later recording including a discussion about ppi (this was when I still thought it was compulsory).
They say they have no recordings of my initial phonecall (strange that isn't it?) where I was told I had to have the ppi.
Is it worth me pursuing this claim? Or does the fact that I have ticked a box asking for ppi on my mortgage acceptance form mean that the foswouldn't find in my favour?
