Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi,
I know this is my fault but a couple of months ago, I couldn't pay my ltsb loan for one month - now all my bills go out of my LTSB account so by 5th of the month it's empty - unbeknown to me (and they never warned me!) LTSB slapped in a £25 'loan default' charge on the 17th August - I got the letter on the 19th August advising that I have an 'unplanned overdraft' and that would cost £15 and £6 per day - they are now due to take £33 from my account on the 1st October.
I know it doesnt seem a lot of money but I'm in temp employment and every penny counts towards the mortgage, bills etc.
Surely, charging upon charges is both immoral and illegal?
Have wasted over an hour on the phone to them tonight and the bottom line is that there is nothing I can do to stop them taking my money on the 1st - it is too late to transfer the household DD's so we're stuffed and as the lady on the phone said, the banks are expecting it to take to Jan 2010 before the OFT case is sorted.
So what next for me - I feel really helpless and angry on this!
Hiya Patchbilly welcome to the world of greedy banking .
If this is a one off happening I know some banks branch managers do have the power to reverse charges but this is discretionary at the whim of that particular manager and generally you would need to see him face to face to get him to agree to do this.
Otherwise you will have to start a claim to recover your charges . This isn't difficult and there is plenty of help here if you get stuck or even just have any questions but it isn't instant.
The High court test case means that any claim will be put on hold until the outcome of that case is know which is likely to be quite a few months yet . But dont let this put you off, you should start your claim now.
