Default Corsa C (05) Camshaft snap causing engine blowout

    Hi all,

Firstly, thanks for any help in advance. In short, i purchased my corsa brand new from my local VX dealer in 09/2005. All services and 1st MOT at the same place. Only done 37K miles as well........

However, 1 day before its 2nd MOT the car stops while i was doing 70 MPH on the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow. And when i say stops i mean a complete loss of ALL functions.

Got to the dealer (above) via the AA and the report from the mechanic is that it needs a new engine at £3000 which i have to pay. As it is now out of 3 year VX warranty they wont pay a penny and either will VX. There are numerous forums suggesting that this is a very common problem with this year and model and many a mechanic ensures me that this failure should nearly never happen.

Do i have any come back via SOGAicon? And should i target the dealer or VX?

    Many Thanks,

    Mark,

    Edinburgh

Has it been serviced according to its makers recommendations?

If so, then you can claim against the dealer under SOGAicon

As said above, and the most important point, is servicing in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. Regular service won't wash if it has been done outside the stipulated times/mileages. That will be their get out clause even if it wasn't a factor.

    Hi,

Yes it has been serviced to manufacturer’s recommendations. Always within timeframes and mileages.

Just spoke to them this morning and have told may they wont pay for a new engine and gave me the old line of "its out of warranty and you can never put a time frame on when parts will break".

I am going to take legal action if they dont stating that they "failed to discharge your implied duty under s. 14 (2) of the Sale of Goods Act that the vehicle be of satisfactory quality and further under s. 14 (3) that the vehicle be reasonably fit for purpose".

Do you agree or have any further advise? Its is turning into a major nightmare!

try looking up the freelander fiasco
they had to pay up in the end.
i believe it was head gasket going as a well known fault was documented

i must say it was rectified when they put in the bmw engine
