Default Car for part exchange damaged. Cant afford new car.

    Hi,
I am newbie. I am in need of help as I signed to buy a new car with a dealer with my car for part exchange and rest in cash. I have paid £ 500 deposit. But I have had a accident and the car is damaged now. It was not on full comp and I would need to spend a big amount to get the car fixed and cant afford the new car. I do not want to go for finance as this has created a big hole in my budget.
I want to cancel the contract. I am happy even if lose the deposit. What are my options? Please help

    Hi fiddler,

I take it the accident was your fault and you can't claim from the third party?

In any event, I think you should contact the dealer and explian what has happened. As far as I know the worse action they can take is to cancel the deal and with hold the deposit.

All is not lost. Go and explain to dealer. They might still want it as it won't cost them as much to repair. Bare in mind, dealers are desperate to off load new cars at the moment. Technically they can hold the deposit but honourable dealers given the circumstances would refund it. A good name is probably worth more.

If they give you a negative answer just let the forum know who it is.
