HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
Hi all,
Having used these forums in the past and had some excellent advise, I'm back for more
I've sent off a claim for mis-sold PPI on a fixed loan from HSBC, I feel I have a strong case, I've not claimed on it and it's a very expensive option and really was pushed onto me. The guy who sold the loan to me was leaving the bank and so looking back, wanted as much commission to see him on his way!
Anyway, I sent a letter outlining this on the 8th July. I've had 2 letters back from HSBC, saying they're investigating the matter. How long should this usually take? And at what point can I ask them to resolve this? It does feel like they're just stalling until I go away
Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
I'm sure that you won't get a lot of cooperation when it comes to claiming missold PPI.
They should complete their enquiry and respond within eight weeks. If they have exceeded that then you should make an immediate demand from them for a letter allowing you to proceed to the Ombudsman. If they won't let you have one then complain directly to the ombudsman that the banks are obstructing your access.
Please don't pm me about specific questions unless you have posted and it has not been dealt with or unless the matter is confidential. Please include a link to the post you want me to look at. If you have received a defence, contact me.

Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
LOL! I'm sure they're really not too keen at all
But good to know it's 8 weeks, I'll give it a few more days and then send off something to that effect. Basically I'm asking for them to respond with either a settlement figure (the entire PPI amount + 8% interest) or that they permit me to contact the Ombudsman on this matter, right?
Thanks again, and I'll keep post up with any progress!
Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
I've just recently finished a PPI claim against HSBC & it took exactly 8 weeks from my original letter. They firstly responded saying that they would investigate & would take upto 4 weeks if it would take longer they would write & let me know, surprise surprise after 4 weeks they then sent another letter saying that they would require a further 4 weeks, but in the end all was well!
Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
Hi mangle101, thanks for the info! That's exactly what has happened so far, stated it'll take 4 weeks, then there's a delay so will require a further 4 weeks so now just into the final week!
Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
I am in a good fight with HSBC. They try all the delaying tactics they can so I have lodged a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office which is ongoing. Five months from initial request so I expect this to go on for at least a year to 18 months. I will however get back the mis-sold PPI on two loans eventually.
Do not give in keep up the pressure and fight on to get your money back.

Bank charge successes:
Halifax - Full settlement incl interest.
HSBC - Settlement, goodwill no admission of liability about 75% of claim.
RBS - Settlement, goodwill no admission of liability about 70% of claim.
2 ongoing claims for bank charges with HSBC with more to come. (Supreme Court ruling could have upset these claims) They did
PPI Successes
PPI 4 settlements on 9 loans. FOS involvement on 7 added on the 8 % Statutory interest another 30% to both.
2 claims settled in full with LV without FOS involvement.
2 claims settled in full with HSBC without FOS involvement
PPI Claims ongoing with:
Cap one Now with the FOS
Barclays. Paid up today 24/04/10 cheque received for over £4,500 and in the bank.
LTSB still have to decide on this as their SAR production was abysmal. Papers data mixed up documents missing etc
Please do not PM me for advice as it may be sometime before I can respond.
Keep at them. Do not give way and do not accept all they tell you, they will delay and stall for as long as they can to prevent repaying you your mis-sold PPI.
Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
Can I ask if you are continuing to repay the loan whilst waiting for the investigation? If so, are you still paying the full amount with PPI?
Just wondering because of mine with another bank currrently being investigated. I've told them I can't make 1st Sept payment until they tell me how much it is without PPI and that irrespective of investigation into missell, PPI should still have been canx from 2nd August when I wrote to them. They want me to pay full amount for now, but I haven't.

Two loans have already been settled in full. So I am only claiming back the PPI but HSBC are being totally onstructive so a complaint has been lodged with the Information Commissioners Office.
PPI is still a pain in the butt.

Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
Hi, im in similar fight with HSBC. Today I recvd a second letter saying they wont get back to the 5th of October (3 months after my initial letter to them ).
So if im correct do i send them a new letter demanding the matter be resolved within the next week or i will take it direct to the Ombudsman? :-?

cfcboy - In all of my time on CAG i have seen this question asked many times & each time the replies i have seen given are to keep to YOUR timelines, IF after the 8 week period you have NOT received a suitable reponse, then complain, remembering to keep copies of ALL letters sent.
Re: HSBC PPI Reclaim - Being investigated for nearly 2 months?
Sorry for the late reply, but to follow up on this it happened the same for me as for mangle101.
I sent a letter of complaint about it, they wrote back saying it'll take 4 weeks, then again it'll take another 4 weeks and then it was all refunded, the rest of the loan was payed off from the PPI and the rest was refunded, so I'm very happy.
I'm not sure why they're being obstrucive on some claims and not any others?
