Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I vt'd my car in june this year. I had received the letter stating i have no liability as i'd paid them over 50%. They are now after £300 for "repairs". Even though i have explained that i have a letter from them with Breakdown explaining i have no liability they are still after the cash. Is this legal?
Read your agreement carefully all the way through especially the part about vt. Does it say that you will have to pay for any repairs should you vt the car?
If it does not, then you have no liability to do so.
If it does, then you must write recorded demanding a full and complete Breakdown of all the repairs carried out and who did them. A description like 'bodywork £240' is not detailed or good enough. Tell them you will enter into no further correspondence until you receive this breakdown.
Wear and Tear are not reasons to repair, you repair damage not wear and tear. As long as you have taken reasonable care of the car that is all that is required of you.

Also looking for some help. Sorry if post is in wrong area. I "bought" a car through welcome car fiance in Jan 2007. After recently cahnging jobs and not being able to afford the repayments i decided to Voluntarily Terminate the agreement. I received a call toady to say this had been cancelled and was given a number to ring. The number I rang was for the v.t department and they have informed me that my car is not on a H.P agreement. I rang back to my local office and have been told that what I have is Welcome car fiance loan against the car not H.P. I have been told that I will need to Voluntarily Surrender my car so a reposseion basically. I have checked my experian credit report and the car is recorded on there as being on H.p.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice as i thought i was going to be able to V.T now it turns out i am going to be liable for a lot more... seriously fed up. I apparantly am outstanding 3765 pounds when only 2 months ago I was outstanding 3888.
What does the heading say at the top of your agreement?
