Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I have been with Alliance & Leicester for about 8 months and have a Premier Direct Account. due to an error on my part, I did not have sufficient funds in my account when a standing order was processed. I was sent a letter informing me I had been given a paid transaction charge of £25. As soon as this arrived, I set the ball in motion to transfer sufficent funds across. I also immediately sen a letter asking for a Breakdown of the charge as I thought this may be an illegal charge.
In the meantime, my funds did not arrive in time to prevent another standing order being places with insufficient funds, thus incurring another £25 charge.
A letter arrived today and I have been refunded the first £25.
Until the banks stand up and justify the charges, which A&L have said they wont do, all these charges are penalties and deemed illegal. so yes you can claim them back.
25.00 paid item charge
34.00 unpaid DD charge
25.00 unaauth OD charge
hope this helps

Based on other posts in this forum, I will wait 3 months to claim this back. This current account feeds a regular savings account which matures in 3 months. It seems that A&L close accounts if they feel threatened by customers so I had better wait until this completes.
Its entirely your choice. Make what would be the best financial decision for you circumstances. If you are going to be penalised then yes, i would probably wait the three months. On the other hand, could the regular savings be fed from another account? In that case i would claim now.
hope it helps
