As no ones replied the only advice I can give is that Civil Servants get 25p a mile public transport rate so presumably if youare claiming off a Government Dept it may well be the same.

It depends what it's in regards to.

 

The jobcentre would refund the price of a return journey by public transport if it was an interview at the Jobcentre NOT on a normal attendance day - for example if a return ticket/daysaver on the bus costs £3 you'd get the £3.
