Is it wise to inform your insurers that you might be making a claim? We don't know the extent of damage yet or if it will come to a claim but it is the fault of a third party and there was fire service and police involvement.

Not sure if we should wait a few days until there is more info from the police or if we should involve our insurers even if we don't end up claiming.

Your contract requires you to notify them of any incident which may give rise to a claim "as soon as possible".

A few days will not hurt - it's when people leave it for months or years that difficulties start.

But you need to notify them anyway, so best wait until you get as much info as you can - even if it is a police ref number.
