Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi, I currently owe £3.6K on an Egg card and £1.4K on an MBNA card. Due to losing my flat and redundancy and a lack of work I am moving in with some relatives in Aus, I expect to be out of the country for at least 18 months.
I have just CCA'd MBNA and Egg and will be dealing with them through forwarded mail from abroad.
My mother will be forwarding my mail to me.
I have two questions, if MBNA/Egg decided to go to court how would that work with me abroad.
Also is there a way to ensure my mother will not be harassed for the debt merely for forwarding my mail?
Can't see why they would harass your mum, she may get calls and letters for you, but she won't be chased for the debt, which is what I think you may be worrying about? - well not unless she is jointly responsible or acted as guarantor?
I have no idea how court proceedings for someone outside the UK would work. Perhaps contact your local county court or await someone more knowledgable to come along.
