Something weird happened to myself and 2 other members of my family. All three of us had Eggcredit cards in our own separate names and in December 2008 our cards started to be declined by retailers. The accounts were in good standing, all balances paid in full every month via direct debit
.
Egg customer service could not tell us what was wrong over the phone and kept saying that another department will ring us back and letters were in the post. After months of letter writing and complaints to CR department, I was finally given a phone number for their security team. I was asked by the advisor to send in 3 months worth of bank statements and payslips to re-instate security on my account. I said I was happy to provide those to them but I needed to know why they suspended my account in the first place. She replied that she was not allowed to disclose this information to me due to data protection act. Well I thought that the data about me belonged to me not her so I had every right to know
In the end I decided to send in a DSI Request and after a while I received this. The only thing I found is that something happened at the end of November 2008. There is a note on account “DO NOT RE-SET SECURITY; IF YOU HAVE FAIL IT AGAIN** ** IMMEDIATELY ON GTX ** REFER ALL CALLS TO X4094: DO NOT REMOVE A95 OR MAKE ANY CHANGES TO A/C
To be honest I don’t know what that means and it doesn’t tell me why this message was placed on my account. The compliant was referred to the Financial Ombudsmanand they were told that the reason was in their terms & conditions
Condition. 19 Limiting the use of your account:
1. We may, without warning and without ending this agreement, cancel, or suspend the right to use the account, if we have good reason to do so. The circumstances in which we may do this include the following
2. If you are in breach of the Agreement
3. We reasonably believe you are about to breach this Agreement
4. If we have reason to believe you are getting into, or are in financial difficulties. We will take account of information we hold and obtain from third parties, and the way you use your Account in making this decision.
5. As part of our fraud prevention procedures
6. For legal or regulatory reasons
I must make it clear that I am not in any financial problems as I checked my credit rating online and its all fine. There cannot be any fraud as all the transactions that I was able to check last time in November 2008 were mine
Where do I go from here, I am not bothered about Egg as do not want their card anymore but I am annoyed that it has gone on for so long causing me stress and they still won’t tell me why?
Has anyone else come across anything similar?
Thanks
