Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi all, I'm a new poster here who's been lurking and reading for the last few days. I have a large credit card bill with MBNA which I've had for the last 10 years, and with the common experiences that everyone else around here seems to have had - increasing credit limit without request, very pushy sales people trying to get to take a cash advance on my credit card, etc.
Like many people here, the current financial climate means I'm struggling to pay off my debt (I'm just about managing to keep up with the minimum payments, but no more, so my debt is not reducing).
I have come across a company who claim they will be able to clear my debt for £299 on a no win - no fee basis. Has anyone come across these companies before, and are they reputable (they are registered with the ministry of justice)? The service they offer seems to good to be true. I've seen from this site that many people have tackled this issue successfully themselves, but frankly I haven't got the stomach for it (or the time).
I should also add that I feel slightly uncomfortable about this, as I feel that it is my debt, therefore I should pay it back. However I've probably done this several times over if you add up the interest over the years. As well as this, the company have been very unethical over the years, with their constant unsolicited increases to my credit limit, and persistence in sending me credit card cheques, mis-sold PPI and so on.
I'd value your views on these companies and my situation.
simple answer spend a bit of time reading the forums and do it yourself, why pay them for something that you can do yourself, have a good read then ask questions in the forums
If you are genuine and not just advertising so called firm, you can do it all for free by following advice on this site. Never pay money up front to strangers. Regent St. is full of accomodation addresses.
It always seems to be first posters that bring these 'firms' to light.
I am genuine, but I can see why it might look like I was trying to advertise a company. I've amended my original post. Sorry for not thinking about this.
David

Give it a go. Request a CCA from MBNA, then if you receive one post it up on here so people can advise you on it. Can be a hard slog with MBNA. Plenty of posts on them here. Good Luck
