Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hello everyone, my name's Sam and I need some advice.
I had a catalogue with JD Williams, fell behind with payments and it was then passed to Capquest. They got a CCJ against me for the full amount even though I returned the form to them within the allotted time scale. I then forgot about it due to family circumstances (my grandfather died, then we had to go through the motions with selling his house, sorting out other things etc. Plus I moved house and had to get everything sorted with that). I have now recieved a letter from Capquest saying that they are going to send bailiffs to my house to sieze my posessions if I don't pay in full or agree a payment that I can keep to. I don't know whether to ring them or not or deal with them via a third party like Citizens Advice.
From previous experience of dealing with debt collection agencies I am hesitant to ring them as they usually pressure me into something I cannot afford to keep to. I am also on benefits and am on a very strict budget with very little income left over after paying all my bills (rent, council tax, water etc).
