if I look into my on-line bank acc. with Halifax, the bank charges only go back a few months.
I need to go back possibly 8 years.
is there a way i can ask them to provide details of the charges they have levied against my account?
I know I will probably have to pay for it, but this will be a drop in th ocean compared to the value I would be able to reclaim if i am succsessful
Okay, I would suggest over the next few days you read through the FAQ's and the step by step guide, then spend some time in the Halifax forum. By Monday you should be ready to start the process - and have a full understanding of what is involved.
All the best, and keep us posted.

Is it possible to reclaim my bank charges even though i took them for almost 10k when i went voluntary bankrupt at beginning of the year.
or is this really going to get me a proverbial slap in the chops
Hi all,
Got a few 10.00 postal orders on friday, 5 off , now I had accounts with Halifax bank and halifax credit card.
Do i need to send 2 seperate letters with 2 seperate postal orders, or will 2 letters with 1 postal order be o.k.??
1 letter + 1 £10 fee will cover both bank account and credit card. Give details of both accounts in your letter. The DPA is information about you not accounts.
Re: Firebird takes on Halifax bank and credit card
Go for it firebird I've just won my case with the Halifax and they paid in full £1300.
In simple terms just follow these steps.
1, spend a good few days reading everybody’s updates and FAQs on this site.
2, send DPA letter (Data Protection Act) from the library (templates) asking for 6years worth of statements.
3, after about two weeks when statements arrive, tot up all charges and insert them in excel spreadsheet from library.
4, The next day Send letter requesting refund of all charges copy in library.
5, After 2 weeks you will receive a letter from Halifax telling you they are right and you are wrong as per there terms and conditions, they may even offer you 10% of your claim as a goodwill gesture
6, The next day send them a letter saying thanks but no thanks and that you are giving them 14 days to repay all charges they have taken from you or you will take them to court.(LBA letter before action)
7, After 14 days log onto Moneyclaim.co.uk and file a claim against your bank.
Re: Firebird takes on Halifax bank and credit card
Hi there,
I got all my credit card statements back about 2 weeks ago, but no bank statements.
So I simply phoned them and politly asked them when they were going to send out the bank statements.
Good guy on the other end told me they were printed by printers, and that they were printed by 2 different printers, 1 external printer doing credit card stuff, and 1 external printer doing bank stuff.
Well true to his word, within a week the bank statements arrived,
I spen an hour goung through them last night.
credit card comes to about 300
bank comes to about 700
so tomorrow night i will download the next letter.
Can't actually remember which one it is, it's been that long.
I finaly got the Halifax bank statements through a couple of days ago.
The credit card statements arrived almost 2 weeks ago.
I have done a spreadsheet for each of the accounts, and totals just about 1019.00
I have downloaded the letter requesting my money back, and altered it accordingly to take in the 2 accounts i am asking about. and included the 2 spreadsheets,
What is the next step, do they simply ignore this request? and wait for the letter before action?
I sent it signed for, and only cost me a pound
firebird
I don't use my Halifax current account anymore, and still owe them about 200.00
can I ask for a cheque, so I can put it into an alternative bank account, so they (presuming they settle) don't deduct the money I owe them.
Now thats hard faced!!!
Advice & opinions of mechs, The Consumer Action Group and The Bank Action Group are offered informally, without prejudice & without liability. Seek advice of a qualified insured professional if you have any doubts.
They may or may not reply, and usually if they do reply it will be a denial that they've done anything wrong and they're not going to pay you anything, or a derisory offer of around 10% of your claim. They may advise you that they have 4 weeks to respond. Regardless of any of the above scenarios, just stick to the timetable you laid out in your prelim letter.
