a month or so ago i recieved a call from a debt collection agency about a british gas debt (this was for a previous address of mine for a period when i wasnt living there and after sending evidence of this to the DCA and to british gas my name has been removed, i am waiting for written confirmation from the DCA). Has anyone got a letter template for me to send to the credit reference agencies to make sure this debt is removed from my credit report and is there a fee i have to pay to do this (a bit unfair if there is as it was never my debt). any help will be much apreciated thank you
All three give a free trial period to new customers. You can then see if British Gas have registered any innacurate info with them, and cancel before the free trial runs out. Be wary of callcredit's free trial though; their welcome email says you can cancel by email but you actually have to call them to cancel (found this out when I called to make sure theyd recieved my cancellation email and was told that its not possible to cancel by email).
i ordered a copy of my experian credit report already and they have defaulted against me for this, i think in theory now british gas have removed my name from the debt the default should come off but i want to write and make sure they remove it
Make sure you check the othe 2 agencies too just to be sure. The default should come off but im my experience it takes at least a month for companies to correct incorrect CRA data.
Cant find a template but thats not to say one doesnt exist - I havent been using the forum long. Give experian a call (use www.noto0870.com to find a cheap number to call them on) and ask them if British Gas have corrected the file yet. If they have experian should send you an ammended report for free.
