Default Stolen bike recovered with serious damage - what happens now?

To cut a long story short, my scooter was stolen and recovered in the space of just over a week.

Despite reporting the theft immediateley, the insurance company still hasn't taken my statement about the original theft.

The bike is now back in my garage (it was dumped and recovered by myself after I was tipped off to where it was). It is seriously damaged and not ridable, but may not be a write-off, I don't know how they assess that.

What happens now? If I can actually get the insurance company to take my statement (so far, all my calls have been met with 'we'll be in touch'), do they send someone to assess the damage, or do I have to get quotes from garages?

At this point I'm not sure it's even worth involving the insurance company, what with the excess & effect on my no-claims.

    Can anyone advise?

If you think it might not be worth it get an estimate yourself to do the work. Dont tell them its an insurance job as that'll bump the price up by loads.

Once you've got the estimate, and you feel that it is worth it to claim then they will probably interview you over the phone, send an salvage company out to pick the bike up. An assessor will visit the salvage company and work out how much it will cost to repair, and how much to replace.

If the replacement costs comes anywhere near the repair cost it will be written off & you'll get a cheque. If it is repairable they will repair

    Abbey - owed £3260 - Paid up.

Barclays owed £2500 - Paid up.

Halifax, Mint & Egg - next on the hit list

Dont click on the scales - I'm quite proud of my little red dot! - As the little red dot has gone - click away!!!!
