Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi, I'd like a bit of advice on behalf of my partner please.
He switched his electricity supply to EON over a year ago - and in that time hasn't received a bill. He's been putting a bit away in anticipation of this, but unfortunately had to use the savings to cover a big vet bill recently.
Now he's just had a phonecall from EON asking for a meter reading and is panicking slightly!
Am I right in thinking that they can't bill him back for over a year seeing as they haven't yet sent him a bill?
And are they likely to accept a reasonable intallment plan?
They can only bill for the past 12 months if the billing code applies. Did he contact them in this time to ask where his bill was? And yes, they will spread the cost over 12 months but will also be expected to include current consumption on top of that.
