We have had all sorts of problems with my husbands Barclays account which culminated in them closing the account claiming it was over its overdraft limit when it wasnt. They are now hcasing us for the O/D money in no uncertain terms.
It all started when the loan payment in October 2006 wasnt taken out. Next thing we knew a large amount of money was taken out by Barclays. I phoned and they returned the money. Then it was taken again. This went on for months with the money then being returned and taken out again. It transpired the Standing Order had been cancelled and nobody knew why. We got £80 compensation.
The following year in October the same thing started happening again. We now cashed any cheques immediately as it was an Additions account and we were able to, leaving only money to cover DDM's/SO.
Barclays Bank got grumpy with the way we were handlingour account ie. leaving no money in it and closed it but we cant help wondering if it all started because we claimed back "bank charges" and got them in acount August 06.
Last week I was looking on the bank complaints web site and you can send them an email to see if you have a case they would consider taking on. Today we have received an email saying they will!

Not very much to tell at moment. Have received forms from Ombudsman which will fill in. On another thread where I mentioned this I had a message back saying had I exhausted all avenues. Yes I have. Barclays are just not interested and you cant help feeling it was due to claiming bank charges. I do believe they were negligent in that no explanation was given as to why the SO for the loan payment was cancelled and then a year later, why it happened again.
Hi there and what a fantastic web site that has certainly helped me loads. Thank you.
After argueing with Barclays for some 3 years I now have the forms to send a complaint to the Ombudsman. Having sent a final letter to Barclays some 6 weeks ago and not had a reply (yes it was sent by registered post), yesterday I received a letter from Debt Managers Ltd saying "fantastic saving available". The letter claims that my account now qualifies for a Full and final Settlement andI can take advantage of a "one off settlement opportunity".
Has anyone else had one of these and/or is it a [problem]?
Is it from Barclays itself? Becuase they do do that. Like, if they owe you a grand they might offer you £250 as a "goodwill gesture" so long as you sign the form, which basically says you're happy with that and won't take any further action against them.
If it's not from Barclays I don't know how they've got your details and who the heck these people might be! Have you Googled their company? You can go to Companies House website and do a search from there too. If they're part of Barclays it'll tell you.
