Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
at the moment i am on prepayment meter because i went into debt with my gas and electric due to my partner having no work and me only working part time, currently british gas are taking 80% of whatever i put in the gas meter towards the debt, it is costing me a fortune i cannot afford. Are they allowed to take this much back everysingle time i put my card in the meter?
Yes - it was a condition of them being prepared to accept staged payments whilst allowing for consumption to be continued (rather than being cut off completely).
They still shouldn't take more than you can reasonably afford. Are they aware of your personal circumstances?
There is a minimum which used to be just over £3 per week, but I'm a bit out of touch with collections these days.
Thank you for your replies, i have informed them of my situation, but they didn't seem interested, it is not their problem how much income we have coming into the household. I will definately look into whether we are entitled to any help though
