Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Evening all...not new to CAG, but been off line for a bit since my success with Currys due to having twins at the end of last year. Hope everyone's alright??
Need a little bit of advice with regards to a new product and patents etc etc.
Hubby has had an idea, designed it, made the prototype and now we are wondering how to proceed.
To be honest can't make head nor tail of the UK patent website and thinking about using a go between to assist in applying for patent etc etc...
We have had bfump from the Trevor Bayliss company, but it costs the same to us them as to apply for the patent itself...and also had stuff from a company called innovate product design. These people claim to do "some" of the work for nothing etc etc, but I can't really find out a lot about them on tinterweb...
Applying for a patent is not so difficult. It is important that you describe the invention very thoroughly and in incremental stages - a bit like the layers of an onion building up a bit more each subsequent claim so that even if you maybe fail on the final product, you reserve as much of the underlying technology as possible.
Also, you have to describe it and explain it in a way that anyone reading the patent could make it from those instructions.
If you are going to a patent agent to help you it will be expensive.
Really the best bet is to identify an investor and see if they are prepared to help you take out the patent
The most important thing here is to ensure a duty of confidentiality before you begin any negotiation.
You wwould write to them sand say that you have an idea in mind which would fit in with their business plan, that you are looking at various possible partners and would they be interested in talking to you on conditions of strict confidentiality.
You make sure that you have a written agreement from them and then you meet them. Even then you try to hold back as much of the technology as possible.
You will have to decide the way forward. It's a tricky area - and cut-throat too.

I have dealt with Innovate quite extensively in the past and never had any problems. I do my research thoroughly and so I spoke to several of their previous clients as well who had great things to say about them.
I have unapproved two posts until such times as confirmation can be obtained from the admin team that the complaint made by an employee of the company is substantiated.

When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition, they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to have happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI Insurance has been sorted. Now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.

Yes i have.....
I paid a fair sum to have a patent search carried out by Innovate Design only to be left with 5 sheets of paper that were not even related to the original design in anyway. They also sell a 'consultation' but this is just a 5 minute telephone call with a young lady that didnt fill me with any confidence regarding what she understood or the advise she gave.
This was not the best way to spend a large sum and to get the idea of the ground.
I personally would alway use the intellectual property office for any such search (this is what I did in end, the findings were far greater and the advise was very helpfull) for half the cost.
As far as putting in a patent application use the IPO or go to an attourney - they have the relevant qualifications and are specilists in this field.
I have been working with Innovate Product Design for the past 8 months and have had a number of problems with them. Although I was very impressed at the start with the product design process, my delight soon turns to frustration as key points I'd highlighted in my consultant with their designer were duly ignored, I called Innovate to resolve theses problems and was sent new design drawing which were half-hearted and looked incomplete. The price you pay for each service is very expensive and seems to take forever to progress, I paid for a patent draft which I was told would take 21 working days to complete, it took Innovate 10 weeks to complete this process. I have finally got my registered design draft after 12 weeks which were incorrect, I am very angry and will advice everyone to steer clear of Innovate Product Design.
Seems like you were unlucky there. I was very happy with the service. I spoke to a Business Link advisor who advised several people to use them and said he had heard nothing but good reports. Their design work for my project was excellent - no complaints at all. As I said earlier, I also spoke to several previous clients before using them who had nothing but good things to say.
Having invented, prototyped, devel oped and sold to the world market i have found Innovate to be totally professional, organised and reliable throughout the frustrating stages of product design. From the early meetings with Business link which led to discussions with Innovate this proved the most important part in raising my confidence in taking the product to market.I could not recommend them higher. Please remember they follow what you ask but will always give an honest opinion .
hi ,I was planning to go to innovate design with my idea when I came across your statement about innovate design and has put me in double mind.I would also like to know the amount of money u paid upfrnt for ur evaluation and other things
Y'know, some of those recommendations look just a little bit suspect to me. Any of the posters can to let us have the patent number for the goods they have patented through this company? Just to appease my suspicious nature.
I am sure that the company in question is fully aware that posting fake reviews on a site such as this is likely to be a criminal offence. And also makes the company in question look well shady. If the reviews are fake, of course. Which they might not be. Could be 100% genuine.
