Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
My OH is currently on contributions based JSA which is due to end in August. He lost his job in March and was owed £3k which we've been told we've no chance of getting as company has gone into liquidation. He's just been diagnosed with depression and has been referred. Is he likely to be moved onto IB and will this go on past the time when the JSA is supposed to stop?
IB doesn't exist any more for new claimants. This came into force on 27th October 2008. There is a benefit called ESA which has replaced it. He will not be moved on to ESA, he will have to claim it if he believes he is unfit for work. If he is unfit for work, he should not be claiming JSA, he should be claiming ESA. You can find all the information you need here: DWP - Employment and Support Allowance

I have a new twist to this question. Having applied for support for mortgageinterest relief as advised by the Job Centre, we have now had my OHs £60 a week taken away altogether and given direct to our mortgage company and we are left with 10p (yes 10p!) a week!!! No-one told us that this was instead of JSA, in fact we were told by 3 different departments that his JSA was safe. He is now really poorly and I really don't think he's capable of going for an interview (chance would be a fine thing) let alone holding down a job.
If I can persuade him to go back to the docs does anyone know what will happen if he is told he's incapable of work? Will we get any kind of benefit? Will they continue to pay us SMI or won't we be eligible anymore?
We are getting desperate here. His ex has now stopped contact with his kids 'cos we can only afford to pay her £50 (we were paying her nearly £400 - a whole new thread I know and just for the record, the kids aren't suffering as she is well off in her own right. doesn't make it right I know and it's devastating him that he can't support them but at least she can put food on the table which I'm going to struggle to do this week - the only money I could give her this week was my son's birthday money I'd saved up).
Any help, encouragement or anything would be so appreciated.
hi i would put a claim in for dla if hes depressed and unable to work and your looking after him get the form in around £130-£150 aweek not sure on the amount, and you can then claim carers allowance...he will need letter from doc to say he is depressed and feels he can no longer work
please try it at least you wont lose anything and he can work and the money is not taxable..crisis loan maybe wish i could help
Thanks. I just feel so helpless. It's all such a terrible mess. We were surviving whilst he was still working but when the company he worked for went under in March owing us almost £3000 with no prospect of us getting it, that really was the final straw. And our mortgage company are being so pig-headed over it all. It's little wonder people just decide they can't go on. I have to admit I feel a bit like that at the moment
oh bless think everyone is in some kind of money bother at the minute...£3000 alot of money to lose..can u take this to small claims court etc.i would def ring dla benefits though as he seems very unwell
We thought about it but itll cost us £80 and we just havent got it. The chances are we wont get anything cos they've gone under and we'll be way down the list for any money there is. Persuaded him to go back to docs tomorrow so we'll see what he says.
My OH has just come back from the docs and he has signed him off with depression/panic attacks. He's scared to contact the Job Centre as he's worried they'll stop our mortgageinterest support money.
