The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Just so I am prepared can I ask anyone who knows - are employers allowed to withhold salaries?
I am currently on sick leave and have supplied sick notes for the period I am away - I just have a gut feeling that my employer may try to withhold my salary this month. It is due tomorrow, I suppose I will not be able to see which way to go forward until tomorrow has arrived.
I have not been dismissed and I have not had any notification that payment of salary will not happen. Am I right in thinking that they are supposed to inform you when there is going to be a change in any payment?
What makes you think ur employer is going to with-hold ur wages ? gut feeling doesnt really say there are, if ur on sick leave and given ur docs note in, then ur employer will pay u sickness payment as per ur terms and conditions. Do u get ur wages slip b4 the money appears in ur bank account, ie day b4 ? guess u will have to wait untill 2morrow, but think u might be worrying over nothing, unless ur gut instincts are correct and that u havnt mentioned to us the real reason u think there might not pay.
Nothing going on that I have not mentioned just that they are the type of people to try and do this - believe me having worked for them for 7 years you get to know them.
I think it is just that I am going through a really bad patch with my sickness - recovering from severe bi-lateral pneumonia - and I guess I am just the eternal pessimist.
I thinks you could be right and I am worrying over nothing.
A salary is paid to reflect the work you have done. There is no obligation for an employer to pay you when you are off sick outside that which is in your contract of employment. Some and most reasonable employers pay you for example 6 months after a qualifying time, others can be 2 years. But the majority stick to the statutory minimum which can be a matter of days.
Another aspect of the way UK employment law is light years behind in Europe.
I thought by law they had to inform you if withholding money, however I stand corrected if wrong. Anyway my bank balance states that payment has been made.
worried over nothing eh, least u got paid, check ur terms and conditions of employemnt to see how long there will pay sickness for and at what percentage. spend wisely. lol
