Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I went BR almost 6 years ago, have since been sensible and built up a few nice accounts, paying all off on time and doing my credit files good, hoping to be back in the real world by the end of the year when BR drops off.
That was until feb this year when British Gas put a default on my file. Relates to an old address where I lived with my ex.
When I left the property in May 2008, all bills were up to date. (Foolishly) I left it up to ex to deal with transferring all bills into her name only.
Ex obviously stopped paying bills then, left my name on. (she has since moved out). To my horror, default in Feb 09 for £400 from British Gas
I want default removing as its surely not my debt?
Several letters exchanged with BG, they wanted proof that I left the property in May 08. Lived with parents temp until Sep 08 so only had bank statements up til then. From Sep 08 have provided new tenancy agreement/council tax bills etc
BG say the only proof they will accept is tenancy agreement/letter from old landlord saying I moved out of prop in May 08. Nothing recieved at the time, just told landlord i was moving out. Old landlord has sold up and moved on, can't trace them..
Any advice? or am i stuck with this stupid default after 6 years of sensibility for a debt i never ran up at an address i didnt live at?
As a last resort, do you think if i offered to pay it off they might remove it? (not just mark it satisfied) - (although i would be pretty annoyed if it came to this - the debt isnt mine)
