Problem with unplanned overdraft for a very long period of time?
Hi,
I am a new member of this forum and I hope that some of you can help me with my issue.
I opened bank account with Lloyds when I lived in the UK. In 2007 I left the UK and went back to my home country. However, I did not close my bank account when I went back, which was definetly srupid. I am not sure, but it could be possible that my bank account was overdrawn with 3 Pounds when I Ieft. I totally forgot about this matter and I never received any mail from Lloyds at my home address. By chance, a couple of days ago I read on the internet about all the trouble with "unplanned overdraft charges" in the UK and the whole issue came back to my mind. I was shocked when I added together my possible charges for the last two years...
Since I still did not understand the whole concept of those charges I would kindly like to ask, whether any of you could give me advice about what I should do? Do I really possibly face charges to an amount of thousands of pounds for an overdraw of a couple of pounds?

Welcome to the site.
Your plight is not too clear. Are you still getting communications from Lloyds-or anyone acting for them.
Is the account still open as far as you know ?

Re: Problem with unplanned overdraft for a very long period of time?
Hi,
I did not hear anything from Lloyds since I am back home even though they also have my home address. However, I might be possible that they sent me letters to my former british address.
I tried to log on to my old oline banking account. It said that the account were "inactive". I hope these information help.

Ok.
Its quite likely that you were charged for being overdrawn-but I am not too sure how much-it could be £30-£35. interest would then be accruing to that but we are not talking about 1000s.
Its very difficult to advise without knowing what action if any Lloyds have taken.
Its quite likely that the account is with their in house collections.
Theres a couple of things that you can do.
Send off for a copy of your credit files-this costs only £2.00,and should give any information if Lloyds have defaulted the account and what the figures are now.
Alternatively, you could send Lloyds a request under the data protection act to have copies of your last statements (and indeed ALL statements) sent to you.
You can then not only make a claim for any charges levied after you left the country, but also charges they may have levied previously.
Its up to you to decide.
Or you may choose not to do anything, but there may be problems with any credit or other accounts that you may want to have in the future,if you leave this and do nothing.
