Hi,
I remortgaged in October 2007.
What should have taken 4 to 6 weeks to complete too 13 weeks to complete due to the solicitor making mistakes - which they have admitted and appologised for by email as well as giving me a £400 discount on the overall fees.
Anyway, when the remortgage finally completed there was some additional paperwork which I had to sign and send back. I admit I didn't do this very quickly (about 3 months) and as a result I was chased by the solicitor a few times.
I heard nothing for about a year when suddenly I got a bill for £500 for costs they incurred chasing me for the paperwork.
I have written back a stong letter saying get lost and expressing my disgust at their level of service etc. I have also requested that they pay me x amount for the hassle, delays, errors and the fact that I had to keep paying my old mortgageat a very high interest
rate until they finally got the new mortgage
sorted.
The amount I am asking them to pay me is considerably more than the £500 they have asked for.
Does anyone think I actually have a case here?
Shall I just let them sue me for the £500 and then put in a counterclaim for my higher amount?
Cheers,
1970.
