    Default Solicitor problem

    Hi,

    I remortgaged in October 2007.

What should have taken 4 to 6 weeks to complete too 13 weeks to complete due to the solicitor making mistakes - which they have admitted and appologised for by email as well as giving me a £400 discount on the overall fees.

Anyway, when the remortgage finally completed there was some additional paperwork which I had to sign and send back. I admit I didn't do this very quickly (about 3 months) and as a result I was chased by the solicitor a few times.

I heard nothing for about a year when suddenly I got a bill for £500 for costs they incurred chasing me for the paperwork.

I have written back a stong letter saying get lost and expressing my disgust at their level of service etc. I have also requested that they pay me x amount for the hassle, delays, errors and the fact that I had to keep paying my old mortgageicon at a very high interesticon rate until they finally got the new mortgageicon sorted.

The amount I am asking them to pay me is considerably more than the £500 they have asked for.

Does anyone think I actually have a case here?

Shall I just let them sue me for the £500 and then put in a counterclaim for my higher amount?

    Cheers,

    1970.

It's going to be an interesting year...

Not sure but try the law society first to see if they can deal with your complaint.
