Thread: Advice : Air Conditioning Regas - Vauxhall Dealer or Kwik Fit ?

I need to take my car, a 2004 Mk 4 vauxhall Astra 'G' for an air conditioning regas & service. Quoted £90 in Vauxhall dealer where I purchased car or half the price of £45 at Kwik Fit. Anyone had experience of having this done at Kwik Fit as I've heard more bad comment & reviews than good. Would prefer to pay the £90 at Vauxhall to be sure of having it done properly. Any comments / advice appreciated.

my own experience is dont use kwik fit

i had a honda accord and took it in for an air con recharge

it blew the air con pump

it siezed up a week later

just my own opinion

pay peanuts get monkies

It might be worth getting a quote from a local mobile air-con specialist, if its anyhting around the kwik fit price then its a no brainer, especially if they come to you.

Thanks for your thoughts & quick responses. postggj - Hmm my suspicions confirmed I think. Will stay away from them & go to Vauxhall. As a matter of interest did they sort the problems out in the end as I've also heard that their customer service is pretty dire as well. Only ever been to them for quotes &, after waiting for 20 minutes all their staff seemed fairly unhelpful & ignorant. Didn't instill much confidence to have any actual work done with them.
Their Current TV adverts seem to sum them up ie. We are great at playing the piano & hypnosis but are probably crap at repairing cars !

the prob is when the pump blew,
the symptoms anly started two or three days later
with in a week i scraped the car,
air con pumps are a bitch to replace

try proving it was kwik fit

they would just say the age of the vehicle even though no probs before kwil fit

Whoever you choose to do this job, ensure that it isn't just a top-up of gas, like they do at Halfords. The old gas must be evacuated first, and the system lubricated. We have an excellent mobile man who charges us £35 per car, I think he charges £60 for private work.

Yeah some of the mobile lads that do it all the time are good,car medic done mine it was ok,no bother,cost 50 quid I think

I'd rather drive with the windows down in the rain than go to Kwikfit

Thanks all for the advice, much appreciated and taken on board. Hmm think I'll give Kwik Fit a miss then. Will probably go to local dealer but will look into mobiles. Thanks again all.
