Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Did You Know ..... if you sign up to the national lottery online ticket purchase, you are automaticly credit searched via experian !
I recently had the misfortune of forgetting my log in details and requested a reminder, ended up having to call them on the phone, only to be told that I would have to complete a new identity form which would then be passed through experian.
For a bloody lottery ticket !
Why should anyone be credit searched for buying a lottery ticket online..... yet another underhand way of experian gaining more illicit information as to who, where, when, why.
I guess this will be for anti money laundering purposes but given that your chances of winning a tenner are about 54:1 it would appear to be a pretty stupid way to launder proceeds of crime.
All comments are my personal views - if in doubt then seek professional advice. If you think i've helped then please tip my scales.
Not that I would ever defend the CRAs and their practices, but I too noticed Camelot on my Experian report, and it's listed as identity check or something similar. I am assured by Experian that this is not a credit check, and does not appear to other lenders, and therefore does not affect my credit file in any way. On this point, at least, I believe them. Makes sense really - after all, you're not applying for credit from Camelot, are you? So that's one less search to worry about on my file, now to tackle the 20-odd from the DCAs that keep appearing on there ...
The search they do is for age verification only. They only look at the header of your report and it does not leave a negative footprint.
Sorry but would have to dissagree there with you, "If only from my past experience with them"
I set up an online account at my latest address, where ive lived for 4 years and have been registerd to vote for 3 years and 9 months, yet they searched my previous address, and listed in the search eventhough I did not give it...... so be-aware.
The check should be done to ensure the person is 18 and is leglly entitled to gamble.
They obtain the rights by you agreeing to their Ts & Cs when you sign up to the site.
As mentioned - they should only be dipping into the header which contains your DOB. This has been standard practice for gambling sites for many years. Many other companies are now introducing it to check for the sale of alcohol DVDs, computer games, knives and other age restricted sales.
If they do any more than search the header then I'm intrigued to know why.
They do have good reason to search the header though. Would you want a child to get a gambling habit or purchase a knife online?
after seeing this, i a had a look at my experian credit report and there is a mark as below
"Unrecorded enquiries, quotations, identity verification checks and credit report applications are shown for you on your copy of your report but are not seen by lenders. "
