Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Am picking a fight right back with a pondscum DCA, Reliable Collections. I know they are part of the JD Williams group and are an appointed representative for them listed on the FSA register.
They are listed with Companies House as 'non trading', can anyone clarify this for me? I do not understand what it means. All I can find out is that they shouldn't have any 'significant' accounting entries.....but if they are collecting debts etc they would have wouldn't they?
Arrrgghhh, confused! Any advice appreciated

Basically, they do not trade! As the the in-house DCA for JDW, it givs them an oppotyunity to be removed from the main company to pursue defaulting sutomers, when in reality - it's just the same old firm doing it all themselves.
Thanks for that Buzby, want to make sure I've checked right into them as they are a royal pain in the hoo ha.
I can handle them but anyone vulnerable would be at their wits end with them . Have just caught them lying through their teeth anyway, in writing no less!
Reply ppreciated, thanks

It's pretty common - my best one was when Scittish Gas were pursuing me for an imagined debt, and their 'solicitors' turned out not to exist. With a little digging it appeared that htey had promoted their in-house legal staffer (who WAS a solicitor, but not practising on her own behalf). with her own 'personalised' letterheads.
I complained to the Law Society (of Scotland) who agreed that the communications 'sent' by her were misleading and I understand she was censured for doing so.
Excellent, love it. They just do what they please thinking no-one will ever check, especially us normal folks.
Will be digging my nose well and truly into them. If I were to send Reliable Collections money (and even though one cagger found out they are actually only some desks in the JD Williams office lol) that company has still received my money and still has to pass it onto JD Williams Ltd, therefore they need to be able to account for that money....
Thanks

I think our advice is always NOT to pay a DCA, as to do so adds an additional level of obfuscation - I would certainly have no truck with paying them for their 'expertise' only the firm I had originally agreed to deal with.
