Unpaid direct debits incur the same sorts of charges as unpaid cheques/standing orders and so forth.
So yes-unless the bank is prepared to substantiate them as being a genuine pre estimate (which we know they wont) then consider them claimable.
It is reasonable to assume also that unpaid DDs is a wholly automated process. Barclays had a typical unpaid DD fee of between £27.50 and £35 on its Business account tariffs.
So yes-they are claimable.
