Default CIS - Home claim problems

Im about at the end of my chain over this and hope someone can help or offer advice .

About 6 months ago a pipe burst in the kitchen . I had to rip up the laminate floor to find it . In the process of doing this I removed the kickboards from under the kitchen units . The pipe has been leaking for quite some time and has rotted out the units bases .

CIS send out the loss adjuster who tells me all they will pay for is the floor and carcasses . Bear in mind this is a fitted kitchen put in in the 80's .

I will have to reuse the sink, worktops, drawers and doors .

So I set about getting quotes . Every kitchen company tells me the same thing . It is impractical to try and reuse the sink etc as it will drive up the quote . Cheaper and easier to fit as new and none of them can guarantee that in removing the things to reuse that they will actually be in any state to reuse them .

Quotes get sent in and nothing dead silence for weeks . I ring CIS and they are waiting for the adjusters report . Ring them and they have lost the quotes . CIS send them copies and I get told the adjuster will ring me later that day . Three days later nothing .

Ring CIS again and again they chase the adjuster. Still nothing .

This entire caper has been going round and round for months . I have rung CIS several times and they promise to prioritise it .

I rang the loss adjuster today and they tell me that they are forwarding the report to CIS . They then tell me the submitted quotes are unacceptabley high .

The floor is too much . I fitted stuff from B&Q and the floor company uses proper stuff . The adjuster told me quoting for stuff from a diy store isnt acceptable and has to be from a flooring company . I'd like to know how Im supposed to get a cheaper quote then .

The kitchen quote is also too high . Cant I reuse the sink . No its 20 years old and wont fit modern carcasses . Can I use the taps then . No they are built into the damn sink . How about the worktops then . And on it goes .

I told the loss adjuster that I wouldnt accept this and all the companies are telling me that the adjuster is barking up the wrong tree . I told them I would complain to CIS again .

Ring CIS back and at no stage through any of this have they raised a complaint even though I have told them the situation is unacceptable and want it resolved asap .

So they have now raised it as a complaint and I get told its probably going to take a week or so for the complaints department to get it sorted out .

Im thoroughly annoyed now . My kitchen is propped up in places with bricks to stop it collapsing and its unsafe .

I can't believe the aggro its causing to sort out a simple enough claim .

You say you have already put a complaint in?
Where you complain (and it does not have to be in writing, but it helps), the insurer is required to provide an acknowledgement within 5 days and to provide a final response within 8 weeks. If they fail on either, or you are reasonably unhappy with the response, you can go straight to the fosicon.

Well its now partially sorted out . Loss adjuster who originally came out rang me this morning . Explained their issues with the quote . Basically this was all over the damn sink and floor . They now accept the sink is unusable and I can sort the floor myself . We have agreed on a final figure which will enable me to get my kitchen sorted and the floor .

All thats left to do now is call CIS back and let them know and see if they are willing to drop the excess fee due to the grief caused .
