Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I went onto my Lloyds account yesterday evening (7th) to check my statement, and noticed two erroneous additions.
I had a standing order that is meant to go out on the 6th of each month, or the next working day, and a debit card transaction in Tescos that was made on Friday both taken out yesterday.
I wouldn't have an issue with the Tesco one coming out on the weekend as it's just a normal transaction so I assume they have a set time-scale for being processed, but the SO is for £900 so it's a big deal if it comes out on the wrong day or when I'm not expecting it too.
In addition to this, they have put the date shown as when it was debited from my account as the 8th - today!
Firstly, as I wasn't expecting this money to leave until today (when I have money going in to cover it), this may well have left me open to going over my overdraft. In them taking it early I was right at the edge of it, and had I not checked I wouldn't have been aware of it as it should have been debited today.
Secondly, SO's are meant to be working days - from their website
The payments are taken from your account on agreed dates, usually monthly. If a payment date falls on a non-working day, the payment will be made on the next working day
Since when has Sunday been a working day? Banks don't even class Saturday as a working day!
Thirdly, how on earth can they show the date it was debited as a full day after the date it actually came out? Surely this is a huge no-no? It's not an accurate statement of what's going on, and should there have been any issues because of it I would not have been able to show they had caused it.
And lastly, if they manage to debit stuff on a Sunday, why was the faster payment my OH made to me on Thursday not processed too? What's good for the goose and all that - after all, it did leave his account the second (literally) he put the details in.
I really am fuming about this. Surely it's bordering on fraudulent activity to fake a date on a statement? Also, I know it will only be pennies, but in doing this they have caused me to go into my overdraft where I wouldn't have if it had come out on the right day - I have worked extremely hard to stay in the black and have not been overdrawn for nearly a year now. Of course though if they're doing this to tens of thousands of people every week, those few pennies they gain from each person becomes a hefty chunk of money.
Any ideas on what to do?
Obviously I'm going to complain to Lloyds, but does anyone think anything'll come of it? Not so much the debiting early as we all know they do that, but more the changing the date on the statement. I did take a screenshot of the statement along with the PC's date. Not conclusive I know as I could have changed it, but it adds a little weight to my argument at least.

Hi, some time Lloyds take show the transactions on your statments a few days b4 easpeecial at the star of the month, this is because they amount they have to process, i have had a similar problem, i was advised as long as the money is recived befor 2pm on monday there is no problem as the money dont acctually leave till then!
Thanks, but the money definitely came off my account yesterday, not today. In any case, they still should most definitely not 'amend' a date to show it being debited a day after it actually was. Your statement is meant to be what actually happens with your account, not what they fiddle it to look like

are you sure the money left or did u just check internet banking?
on internet banking the dates are normally for monday even tho its still only sunday! i would call Lloyds and ask them to confirm to be honest i think its probly just got you confused (No Offence)
Esspecialy as you cant get a bank to do F all after Saturday close!
There's really not much to get confused about - on Saturday I had a balance of about £450 in the black, with an available balance of just under a grand, and on Sunday I was in my overdraft to the tune of about £480, with an available balance of just under £20. Unless I'm missing something fundamental here that means the money was taken and no longer available to me.

yes but the systems are automated so what are the chances some 1 has gone into your account and changed the day, if u went the cash machine it wouldnt show up as overdrawn!
Ok, so once again my statement is showing incorrect dates.
I made two transactions yesterday. One at a cashpoint, and one at Sainsburys. Today I check my statement to find the Sainsburys debit showing as the 15th June, but the cashpoint one showing as the 12th. **just realised the Sainsburys shop was done on the Thursday not the Friday - even more strange then!!**
Whilst I appreciate a cashpoint transaction is instant, whereas a debit may take some time to occur, I don't believe it is right that the date does not represent what is going on. The debit shows as having left my account, so the date should be the 12th. If the money has not left my account yet, it should not be showing on the statement until it does; instead the 'available balance' should be what shows that an amount is in transit one way or another. This is how it has worked on my accounts historically, so why is it changing now? Whatever the reasons for this occurring, I am getting increasingly concerned that the data shown on my statements appears to be utterly random.
If money shows on my account as not being there, I can only rely on what I am seeing on screen. If the money was debited today (or yesterday!), as is shown by my available balance, then for it to show on my statement as 2 or 3 days hence is not an accurate representation.
Has anyone else got any problems like this going on?

Re: Lloyds changing dates on my statement!!
Hi Lexis
Nothing Lloyds did would surprise me to be honest - we can no longer check our banking online however, as they decided to close our account which they believe is their generous way of assisting us in our time of financial hardship!
Lloyds often did this to me as well, i have closed my account now and am currently pursuing various complaints about them through the fos, OFT & ICO etc...
