Default AOE with Council Tax and impending monthly payments increase!

    Hi

I am just looking for some advice please...

I currently pay an AOE for approx £160 for CT arrears. I have around £1884 left to pay so working that out it would finish in around 12 months time, this was paying the 12% bracket that they wanted.

I had a loan via work for £150 a month and have also had to take a pay cut earlier this year.

The loan for £150 has now finished and I am £5 below the 12% bracket.

However, I heard a rumour that our decreased pay cut (which made me £60 a month worse off) is going to be reinstated in June, which would put me over the 12% council tax bracket and into the 17% - correct me if I am wrong in that there is a % bracket between these two figures.

However, my payments would go from approx £160 a month to around £250 and as much as that would pay off the debt much quicker i.e. in around 7 months, but I really do not want to be paying this amount back when they are expecting the normal payments on top (of which I am already struggling with).

I am loathed to say anything to our payroll department as she should have already increased this amount after my loan cleared, but only by about £11 but fear that once the salaries are increased she will work out that I need to be paying more.

Is there anything I can do or is it a case of pay up and shut up until the debt is cleared?

    Thanks LL

The only way to do so is to clear the debt - the AOE deduction figures are set in law (council have no say over rates) and the payroll dept should deduct as per legislation , if they haven't its been a bonus for you, but if they re-instate the correct deduction there's nothing you can do. (17% is the next step after 12%).
