What do you mean by free upgrades, are you relating to model or gadgets in the vehicle ?
It will be down to the descretion of the dealer, the down payment i presume will be significantly different, in light of the current economic climate its worth asking, a friend of mine recently changed his motability car, went for the same manufactorer, Ford, paid his down payment for a Zetec model and received an upgrade to the Titanium Model at no extra cost.

The point is the A class 150 model to which I refer is nil deposit. Currently Merc Dealers are offering upgrades on many of their models including the 150 & my question is 'can a mobility client take advantage of a free dealer/manufacture upgrade without incurring a deposit payment which wouldn't be payable on the original model
JC the only real answer is to ring motabilty, few years back on a car I got it was a dealer upgrade, had a lot of extra's which was about £400 more on the initial payment, phoned Motabilty and I told them they would benifit because the upgrade would mean the car would have a higher resale value @ the end of the lease, took them 2 days to get back to me, but agreed, but in the first place they said I would have to pay the higher payment, but I had to push the point they were paying no more then the original price for the car I had ordered.
Thanks kip - Motability have moved on quite a bit since you took delivery -A user should no longer receive large demands for payment from the dealer when you return the car as in the past - Fair wear & tear minor dents scratches etc is now much more readily accepted as being a fact of life so it may be that free upgrades are also accepted - as you say I will tel Motability tomorrow for a definitive answer
I realise this is a bit late and you may have already answers you need, but I am a Motability Specialist in a Vauxhall dealership and so have read the posts with interest.
With regards to the upgrading question, Motability will not worry about that at all; as long as the car in question is available on the scheme then the dealer can adjust costs as they wish. Vauxhall dealers had this issue earlier this year when the Vectra was being replaced by the Insignia. If you looked on the Motability website at the time the Advanced Payment for some automatic Vectras was still listed as £1000 plus. However as Vauxhall wanted to dispose of stock they informed dealers that we could do those cars for only a few hundred pounds advance payment. Motability would think that the customer was still paying a few thousand and pay us, the dealer accordingly. Vauxhall would then contribute the difference between the few hundred and the few thousand.
Long and short of it was that we, the dealer would still make the same amount and not lose anything on the deal, the customer would get a car sginificantly cheaper and Vauxhall would get rid of some stock.
Anyone wanting any further information are welcome to get in touch and I'll help if I can.
