Default I'm so glad I've changed GP!

I wish I was allowed to mention the name of the practice I am writing about as I have never in my life experienced such poor standards from the NHS. I moved to Mansfield about 4 years ago and registered with a sposedly 'good GP surgery.

Pretty much from day dot we started having problems. My boyfriend was called in for a vaccination only to be told when we arrived he did not need it for another X amount of years!

Their prescription service is more like calling one of these multi national hotlines, you never got through, I was sometimes trying for well over 2 hours to be told when I did finally get a ringtone that the line was closed and I would have to call back tomorrow.

When ringing the main surgery line to book appointments your put on hold straight away by someone saying 'hold the line please' before you can even state your case the phone goes silent.

Then when you finally got through you'd be told the next GP appt was in 3 weeks time! No same day appointments, nothing.

This surgery has prevented me getting the medical help I need for various things, it's seriously knocked my confidence in the NHS. It was only short while ago when my boyfiend received a very intrustive letter stating that he had sposedly (with NO evidence such as a recorded call etc), been abrupt over the phone with them. He was dealing with a request for me as they were arguing and becoming very rude and abusive to me, accusing me of lying etc etc.

Basicaly they'd cocked up my prescription reveiw dates, saying I hadn't had a reveiw for over a year, last May, when infact I had one last November.

Has anyone had simlar issues with a GP surgery? I wish I could mention the name of the place as I'd hate for anyone to go through the same sh1t I did there. Oh well, rules are rules I spose.

    Chez.

There is a place you can review an NHS service on the internet. Patient Opinion.

My advice is based on my opinion, my experience and my education. I do not profess to be an expert in any given field. If requested, I will provide a link where possible to relevant legislation or guidance, so that advice provided can be confirmed and I do encourage others to follow those links for their own peace of mind. Sometimes my advice is not what people necesserily want to hear, but I will advise on facts as I know them - although it may not be what a person wants to hear it helps to know where you stand. Advice on the internet should never be a substitute for advice from your own legal professional with full knowledge of your individual case.

Please do not seek, offer or produce advice on a consumer issue via private message; it is against forum rules to advise via private message, therefore pm's requesting private advice will not receive a response.

Umm, well you could write a letter of complaint if you think that it would help or look for another GP to register with - they can't all be bad (hopefully)! Take heed from another recent post where they de-registered from one GP and then found that they could not find another one to take them on.

UPDATE: They're certainly NOT all bad! The new one I registered with is fantastic. GP services are sadly hit & miss, the story in that other post is appauling but I advised them to look in the yellow pages & ring every one in their area and the area that the person concerned was able to travel within, trust me if you do this you will find one suitable.
