    Default Help With Problem Car

Hi all - I hope someone can shed some light on my problem.

In January this year I returned to driving after 21 months due to epilepsy, so my first priority was to get myself a vehicle. I went to an online retailer who seems to be fairly reputable from reviews on the Internet, and bought myself a 2007 '07' Ford Focus Titanium TDCi. I'm fairly observant with regards to 'problems', but all I could find on this car was a chip in the windscreen and a tiny bit of touch-up paint on a wheel arch.

About a month after buying the car I found that the spare key wasn't even for the car I'd purchased! After a considerable amount of haggling, the company backed down and offered to pay for a new plip-remote key for my spare. I had to argue the fact that the company had broken their own handover procedures, which stated that the handover assistant MUST try to start the car with BOTH keys. They also paid for the radio and immobiliser re-coding as this information was lost with the spare key.

Anyway I'm now 4 months down the line and 2 weeks ago I noticed rust starting to bubble up around the rear offside wheel arch (this is a 2 year old car!). I took the car to a Ford bodywork specialist and after doing some ultrasound tests and visual inspections, he's concluded that the car has had a new rear quarter panel at some point, either due to an accident, or personal damage by the previous owner. When I bought the car I was given an HPI printout by the company, which showed the vehicle was free of finance and hadn't suffered any insurance claims. As a result of this the damage is not covered under warranty so I've got to stump up the cash myself!

I'm now faced with potentially forking out over £1000 for repairs and anti-corrosion work doing on the rear quarter panel, but I want to know what my position is with regards to the seller? Generally bodywork repairs come with a warranty or guarantee, so it would be helpful if I could get at least some of the work paid for.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

The dealer must pay for the repairs, no question. You may have to take him to court and IMHO you would win there are precidents here.
