Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I sent my car to a garage ( I would name it as Garage A) for replacing a new timing belt kit (including tensioner), water pump, fan belt and power steering belt, and doing a full service about three weeks ago.
The next day after I got back the car, it became very noisy. Cold start up is fine, but becomes increasingly heavy when it gets hot especially amid idle speed.
For this problem, I have been to the Garage A for three times.
1st time: Garage A told me it might be normal and asked me to wait and see for few days, if the noises still remained then went back to garage.
I waited for a week, and the noises became increasingly heavy. I enquired another two garages, they told us the noises might be derived from the friction of cover and pulley.
2nd time: I went back to the Garage A, the receptionist who often gives us quotations and sorts out general enquries was not there. Another worker came out and investigated the car for few minutes. He then suddenly called out one of the technicians who did the repairs for me two weeks ago and laughed at him. In my eyes, it seemed that they recognised that it was their mistake to make my car in this state. After that, he told me to bring back the car next day.
3rd time: Garage A told me it might be because the friction of the cover, shin and pulley. They have to strip down the engine and check what's going on. If it is the problem of the pulley, they will charge me at least 200 pounds to fix it.
I feel quite angry as I have spent hundreds pounds to fix the car yet still have to throw money for further repair. Does the Garage A rip me off? Is the pulley relevant to the repair of timing belt? Is anyone famillir with car repair could give me any suggestion? Thank you very much!
I doubt anyone here can answer your question. I suggest you ask the RAC or the AA to inspect your car & armed with their report you can then seek to remedy your complaint
Depends which pulley. The crankshaft pulley unbolts from the toothed cam drive pulley behind it, it could be that it has not been replaced correctly and is rubbing/chattering against the cambelt cover. That would be their fault, so you could really do with an opinion from a non connected engineer.
