    Angry currys/pixmania

I brought a matsui dishwasher through an internet company which is run by currys/dixon. Within a couple of wks it broke down, I called company to get it fixed and they said they would send someone to fix it. After waiting a few weeks I called themback, they arranged for engineer to call me which took another two weeks. They sent someone out from mastercare and he said it needed new part, which he would order. Waited another 3 weeks and he came back with wrong part. He then took machine away to be fixed, it came back two weeks later and worked for a month and then broke down with same problem. Called back out which took two weeks and waited for new part. It went for another couple of weeks and then broke down. I rang currys to get either money back or replacement dishwasher. They refused so I got hold of trading standards who after three weeks replied and told me they could not do anything as pixmania where a french company and did not fall under their laws and to get hold of european trading standards. I sent two emails to sort this and got knowhere. The guarantee then ran out so got no joy with replacement or money back. It meant i had a dishwasher that was only working a matter of weeks in total. The guarantee wasn't worth the paper it was written on

    Anyone else had similar problems

what a coincidence! I was reading this and I thought that you must be French for putting up with so much of it. It turns out that the company of French and that is why they think they can get away with it. I still don't understand why you've been so tolerant.

Which company is French? I had no idea that Currys/Dixon were French. Anyway, if they trading in UK they are subject to trading standards -- so what you are hearing is complete nonsense.

Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed your taste of European consumer standards. There is more on the way because much of our consumer law is going to be revised to conform to European standards -- and that means that it is going to be revised downwards. I'm sure that the forthcoming deterioration in standards will be substantially due to "old Europe" -- and France in particular because there is a very controlled style free-market over there in which many of their really big companies such as supermarkets and white goods retailers are actually family owned and are pretty well private companies.

It's all rather cosy-up with the administration and the result is that there is comparatively little consumer consciousness and the consumer gets a shafting with comparatively little complaint -- and maybe they even like it up 'em.

Onto your problem then, you say the guarantee has run out so it sounds to me as if you had it more than a year.

Have you got any paperwork or any records of any of this? You need to put together a file. You should also make complete notes outlining everything that has happened from the very beginning. All problems, or conversations, or telephone callsicon, or visits, -- the lot.

It will be very helpful, if you don't have any paperwork from Currys, to get some. However, this would take 40 days and frankly I am sure that you don't want to wait that long.

Serve an SARicon anyway. Request disclosure of all personal dataicon that they hold on you. Currys can be pretty unpleasant and pretty obstructive and if you're lucky they may not even make the disclosure. This would be contrary to the data protection act and will be added ammunition for you.

Send them a letter outlining the entire story and the reason for your complete dissatisfaction. Make sure that the letter is laid out in a very understandable way. The best thing to do is to lay out the sequence of events in bullet point form. This is partly for the benefit of the company -- but mainly for the benefit of the court.

Demand that the company remove the machine and refund you your money within seven days or else you will Sue them in the county courticon.

After seven days, do exactly that. Don't bother to bluff them. If you haven't got a heart for this then give up now. You are dealing with a company who seems to have a reputation the only reacting when the chips are down and it looks as if you really do intend to go into court.

On the fact that you give, you can't lose and you will get your court fee back.

By the time you go to court you will have the data from the SARicon - maybe.

    However, don't wait. Start now
