Default Transport for London Penalty ticket

I received a letter from TFL a few days ago saying that i'd entered & stopped in a box junction when prohibited & i'm supposed to pay £120. I was simply following a bus after a set of lights turned green not knowing that the bus would stop & leave me stranded in the box. This is just outrageous. Can this ticket stand? Thanks

    Yes.

You aren't meant to enter a box junction unless you can drive out again. The only exception to this is if you are turning right and only oncoming traffic is preventing you from leaving.

The above post constitutes my personal opinion on the facts in the post compared with my personal knowledge of the applicable legislation. I make no guarantees of its legal accuracy. If you are in doubt seek advice of a legal professional specialising in the area concerned.

You might want to post this in the parking forum, where there is more experience of dealing with yellow box junction offences.

Yes they can enforce this fine. You are not allowed to enter a box junction unless you are certain that you can proceed without stopping (unless oncoming traffic is stopping you from turning right).

Following another vehicle in and then being stranded in the junction is exactly what the box is designed to prevent.

However, many of London's yellow boxes are not to spec. and are therefore unenforceable.

Normally, this would be in the Parking/Traffic Offences section, but we need to see washed copies of the paperwork together with a location and, if possible, photographs of the junction.
