Lost Paper Licence (Have Photo ID) - Due Renewal Next Year
Hi All,
I have misplaced the paper part of my driving licence but am still in possession of the photo element, my licence is due it's 10 year renewal next year, my question is this, if I pay the £20 to replace my licence now will it be renewed for 10 years also or will I have to pay £20 and then renew again next year for another £20?
Re: Lost Paper Licence (Have Photo ID) - Due Renewal Next Year
Unless you have an immediate need for the paper part of your licence, I wouldn't bother doing anything at the moment.
If you need to produce you paper part, you can get a duplicate licence in a few days on-line. Even if you get a replacement now and it's valid for 10 years, you are 'losing' a year
2 months prior to your pihoto expiring, you will get a renewal pack from DVLA.

One more thing, if I wait until my renewal won't I need to surrender my paper licence as part of that process, what the implications be if I don't have it to surrender?

pat, I thought they only renewed the photo part of your licence on the 10 year rule (as it' only the photograph which technically expires), and you kept the paper part till you are 70 like the good old paper licence?

Even if they do, you can declare it "lost" at that time. Your renewal won't cost any different because you are already paying them the same price to renew it. they can't charge you twice to issue the same new licence.

My impression was that the whole licence is renewed.

It would appear you are correct pat.
Indigo70, I would do as I suggested earlier then. If you don't need to show your licence for any reaason, just wait till nearer the expiry date and declare it lost at that time.
What do I have to do to get my photocard renewed?
To get your photocard renewal, you need to take the following steps : If you have had a renewal application pack (should arrive approximately 2 months before your licence is due to run out) then you should:
Complete the form as detailed in the pack
Include a new passport style photo taken within the last 30 days. You don't need to get this signed.
Return the photocard and the paper counterpart of your driving licence
Enclose a cheque or postal order for £17.50 (unless you have a medical short period licence or you are aged over 70 in which case it is free)
