Police Refuse to Pay PRS Licence Fee
Wiltshire constabulary have refused to pay the Performing Rights Society for Music licence fee after being faced with a backdated sum of 23 000 pounds for all use of music played, causing a ban to be enforced throughout the premises. Money would be better spent on policing, according to Wiltshire Chief Constable, Brian Moore. The PRS have said that the licence was not required for music played in cars, however. There is an increasingly aggressive approach being adopted by the PRS and the potential for back payments being imposed on any institution that fails to adhere to, or pay the licence fee when required, may be substantial.
