Default Help please - some one

Today I have had another letter from one of my direct debits - UNAT Direct. They say that Abbeyicon have told them my account is closed.

I have telephoned Abbey - not very satisfactory - actually I ended up putting the telephone down - they tell me they would never tell any one that my account is closed, as it isnt, I owe them £522 pounds currently and next week they will be applying a further £200 pounds of charges. They will as a good will gesture give me back £35. I asked them why I they have not sent my last statement, they said that I had requested them to stop sending statements (Never as I need to see this statement to see if anything else has been taken fraudulently). So I asked why online banking was no longer available to me. He said I had never had online banking.

    So now what?

What would the best first step be please.

I am gathering all my statements and will during the course of this weekend make a spreadsheet and write my letter asking for my charges back on grounds of hardship. Yes I can prove that and they should be able to see it from my account. Thankfully I have another account even though no cheque book.

I am getting in a tizz and really could do with some encouragement, pointers etc.

Can we for a moment forget charges etc. Could some one please address the question, is a bank allowed to tell other people, i.e. those that I have direct debits set up with Abbeyicon, that my account is closed.

I now have three organisations that tell me that the Abbey has told them that my account is closed.

Apart from one telephone callicon made by me on Saturday I have had no communication from the Abbey.

I need to know - can the Abbey tell people that my account is closed without informing me first that they intend to close my account.

What redress do I have against the Abbey for giving out untrue information?

At no point have I ever told the Abbey that I wish to close my account, all I did was cancel my Direct Debits to avoid any further charges.

Should I go straight to the Ombudsmanicon?

Abbeyicon still not sent an up to date statement - the usual statement for last month ending 2nd May has still not appeared, usually get it within seven days of that date. There is something very, very odd about my account at the moment.

Has any one any ideas on how I should be dealing with this.

Feel as if I am hitting head against brick wall, at the moment not sure that I want to put my limited salary into this account as I have no idea as to what is going on.

Has any one else found that Abbey do not want to talk to them?
