Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
can anyone tell me the answer to this question.
I went to my local shop yesterday and bought several items which totalled
£4.73p,I gave the owner of the shop my visa debit card to pay, she said that there would be a 30p charge if I didn,t spend over £5.00. I was taken aback by this ,it has never happened before, then looking on her till while waiting I noticed that they charge various amounts for asking for cash back.
ARE THEY ALLOWED TO DO THIS? If not who do I complain to thanks.
Yes; there is no law against it and if you disagree then you can walk away.
They get charged merchant fees on each transaction. On credit cards this is a percentage, but on debit cards it is a fixed amount, so they need to cover the cost on low value transactions. Most small places (who pay higher merchant fees as they don't benefit from bulk discount) will only take cards for transactions of £5 or more. Some for £10. Some will take the card but charge you to cover the merchant fees.
It's a duplicate thread - I came across the other one with Rich44's response on afterwards yesterday, but can't remember where it is now. At least it explains it!
