Hi, I have been paying my student loan through my salary for four years. The amonut varies but is usually between £70/£100 per month, loan is 2000- 2004
I am now the only wage earner in the house and wrote to SL asking if I could pay a set amount every month ie £40/£50, I have sent three letters last one to head of service, and I keep getting the same reply that the amount is set by HM revenue and customs and I can't reduce it because of my earnings.
Can anyone advise me what to do next, or where I can write to.
SLC won't reduce this I'm afraid as they don't officially collect it. I doubt very much that even HMRC would reduce it as it is a set amount of 9% above £15,000, you could ask them though.
Sol thanks for the reply. I have been onto HMRC and they said it was nothing to do with them, they only collect what SL tell them to. SL won't reduce it because they say it's set by HMRC, I am just getting past from pillar to post.
