Holiday Park hired my caravan without a gas safety certficate.

Could anyone shed some light into what I can do about reporting the caravan site my static is sited on as they hired my caravan over easter without the van having a valid gas safety certificate..........is this illegal?

Any help appreciated

Whose responsibity is it to have safety certificate? Yours, as you say it was your caravan or the sites?. It may be a condition of having your caravan on the site that you are responsible for it. Check your site agreement in case they blame you.

The onus should be on you to ensure the gas safety certificate is in place, and also electrical safety test certificate, as well as insurance. These are standard things for caravans. The site where my caravan would turf you off without them.

Thats the usual scenario as LilyLou says,did you accept the booking fee?
I think if you complain you might be opening a can of worms.

The gas safety check was carried out in feb and I was informed that the gas fire failed because of the radiants, I was quoted £40 to replace them so I gave the go ahead to rectify the problem and assumed this had been carried out and the gas safety certificate awarded. But when I visited my caravan last week the fire cover was removed with a label instructing me not to use it. I contacted a member of the maintenance staff who informed me that the fault lay with a broken weld on the burner bar and nothing to do with the radiants and could not understand why I was not correctly informed. My caravan is hired using the sites sub-let scheme and is there responsibility regarding all aspects of hiring for which I pay a fee. They should have known about the problem and failed to inform me.

Thanks, can understand the problem better now,It would seem that the site team should have checked out the caravan before accepting a booking, and then informed you of the problem. Did the person who hired it complain about lack of fire? Or did they get alternative accomodation?
I would check the small print of sub-let scheme and if in your favour would most definately complain to site owners.

Thanks mustang, the fire was disconnected after the van was hired (18/4) but I didnt get to check the van until 1/5..........will definately complain now.

Lets hope so.......come on you reds!!!!!!!!
