Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi Lulu.....have you tried writing a letter to their chairman/chief executive, I was always told to complain to the top ? send recorded....outline your complaint...
I found this thread, and was excited that I was about to find out who the top man was so that I could fire off an email and then stupidly read that the thread was being moved!
The problem you will find is that ebay UK employ very few people. They claim they just facilitate the transaction of goods, so most people in the UK are just admin and marketing.
eBay are very secretive about their contact details, and they can slip through the net on having to display address and phone numbers, as they don't sell anything online.
Good luck with getting in contact with them. My personal experience (I have a major complaint against them, and want to take court action, but they won't give the address for legal paperwork) is that they just ignore everything, and hope you go away.

Sorry i can't be of more help
Ebay's resolution department number is 0800 358 6551.
I tried the first two numbers in this thread and got a recorded message saying 'your number has been barred from this information'! I called again on my mobile and was given 08081093229 which worked! Weird, eh? It leads you to the same call centre as the above.
You have to be persistant. They will send you on more wild goose chases unless you know your consumer rights - such as in my case getting me to solve the problem by contacting the police. The police wont deal with it if it is a civil issue - ie you bought it from a private seller not a company. Consumer Direct are fantastic and give you the right advice. Their number is 08454 04 05 06
Sorry to resurrect this from April but Im having big problems and wondered if anyone has been there/has any further advice?
There is a company operating as a car trader on eBay as mkttrading.
They are taking £100 deposit from people either through paypal as a private transaction, cheque in the post, or payment over the phone - offering promise that its a "no obligation" deposit subject to viewing and test drive. Of course this is all outside of eBay so its not traceable.
Unsurprisingly, not all of their cars are above board and one I was interested in came up bad on the HPI check. I was daft enough to pay the deposit BEFORE I did the check, but I got in touch with them ASAP and said the transaction was a no-go.
A month and some 30 emails, 10 phone calls and 5 handfulls of hair later... still no response. Cant get my money back off them, so I left them bad feedback. 3 other buyers have contacted me to say they experienced the same - this company have robbed them of £100 and then refuse to pay it back simply by ignoring you.
eBay and Paypal won't even let you raise a dispute on their site because vehicles are not covered under the protection policy. You cant send them a message to make a complaint because you get an automated response and they are not interested. Surely they can't just allow this fraudulent company to keep trading and stealing from people???
I have written to eBay and heard nothing. Written to paypal who are not interested, and subsequently contacted my card issuer to report the 'theft'. Halifax are looking into it but cannot promise I'll see any return.
More than anything I want to see these people banned from eBay selling - Is there ANYTHING I can do?!
Sarah...i'm not 100% sure but if you paid by credit card / visa then it may well be protected, do you have an address for this trader ? you could send them a letter before action requesting the return of the money, i'm sure they would not be keen to face a judge to explain themselves....and do contact their local trading standards too.
The ebay user mkttrading is a garage called Toons Vehicle Sales, at 2 Canal Gate Park, Spondon in Derby, they have a current credit licence under HTC Trade Limited. (all this information is available in the public domain)

eBay and paypal are not a police force, nor a court of law and according to the law of land a suspect is innocent if not yet convicted.
In the mean time, crime is a matter for the Police and Trading Standards to investigate.
It amazes me that consumers in the UK continually fail to take this sort of thing more seriously. Elsewhere in Europe a buyer would be on the phone to the Police, straight away, and the Police would then be on the seller's doorstep to sort it out.
The tax we pay is supposed to have already paid for the service. Go get them to earn their keep!
Apart from anything else it's already a strict liability offence for a person trading on a regular basis to pass it off as a "private transaction".

Hi
Thanks for you responses
I know ebay and paypal are not a police force or a court of law but they are still responsible for the sellers they permit to use their website. OK so they don't offer payment protection on vehicles, fair enough, but they should still be willing to accept and investigate complaints regarding vehicle traders.
If Halifax [card issuer] are unable to investigate and resolve the issue then I will report it to the police but somehow I very much doubt they will be interested! It's hard enough getting them to come to your house if you've been burgled, let alone trying to convince them to act when a dodgey garage refuses to refund a no-obligation deposit! Nevertheless, I will still have a go.
There is something very dodgey going on regarding this company and their name/address/trading license. The company is supposed to be a family business and the lady, when you call them using the details supplied on ebay, introduces herself as Michelle Hasseldine. They trade on ebay as MKTTrading, however they ask people to address cheques to Toons Vehicle Sales.
Toons Vehicle Sales (this is the funny bit) are apparently based at 2 Canal Gate Park in Spondon, Derbyshire, but their own website directs you to a guy called Nick from CARALOT who operates out of 3 Canal Gate Park in Spondon. He claims to be nothing to do with Toons, apparently he took over a building they used to lease - yet all his details are on their website, including mobile phone number.
Bearing in mind I have given him a fair bit of stick over my deposit, he maintains he knows nothing about it. If it was me, and I was the immediate neighbour of Toons Vehicle Sales... I would be telling people "their unit is next door, go hassle them and leave me out of it!"
But no... and this Nick apparently knows nobody called Michelle either.
This sounds like an absolute [problem] of the highest degree, untraceable names, cars that don't exist, a garage with a false name... and a website which directs you to a guy from ANOTHER company who apparently knows nothing about anyones money? Probably some sort of tax evasion scheme and a behind the scenes operation which is in place to steal as many 'deposits' from people as possible.
I am in two minds, I'm tempted to drive down there with my partner and see who operates out of number 2 myself. However I don't want any confrontation! I'm going to send a letter to them recorded delivery so I can track who signs for it, other than this I suppose its police and small claims court. A lot of hassle for £100 but im determined not to let them get away with it.
I'm also having so many problems with ebay and trying to sort out my shop. Basically i want to link my new business account to my personal account so that I can remove the selling restriction (i'm selling Apple products, laptops etc). I have tried all the ways under the sun and i'm getting nowhere with them. I asked for refund for my shop fees (as I can't use it properly) and all they keep saying is to close my shop....
I've sent their CEO an email, but not got anything so i've created a group on Facebook called eBay Customer Service Worst in the World where I am posting all my emails to them and their responses. Check them out and post some of your examples on there as well.
Wasn't too worried about him following it, but if you can get enough members going and interesting tales it goes Viral and can spread like wildfire. Press attention etc etc. You just need to look at the Gamu situation aand facebook groups get mentioned in the national news a lot.
ebay do have me by the balls in the fact that at the moment I do need to sell through them. However I work for a very customer focused company and I know that if I was having the same problems this would have been fixed weeks ago. They can't keep ignoring their customers, especially if they're paying to use a service they can't use.
I'm just totally and utterly stuck here - they're not listening to me and its an incredibly frustrating situation to be in. I just hope no-one else goes through this frustration like I am.
Making a complaint gets you nowhere. I have already posted elswhere on this site about my problem but it got swallowed by some idiot making stupid comments.
My problem started Saturday when I was asked by a debt colecting agency to settle a debt for unpaid fees against my account. I was not given any details, just told that I would not be able to log on to ebay as I was suspended. I settled and I am NOT asking for comments about how stupid I was.
I am an OAP. I have no debt and ebay told me I hadnt been suspended. The important issue is that it took 3 days to find that my name and address had been used to set up an account called dreamscancometruepat. Ebay says I have 2 accounts. I only have one. Ebay says the email address they used starts off with my name but is slightly different.
Now - I went to the police and reported identity theft, got a log number off them and tried to give it to ebay. I have spoken to 5 different people who said to use 4 different different live chat desks. I tried the security one twice it took over an hour each time and they said they couldnt help. I have made phone calls every day to ebay and been left holding on forever. Today the guy said just hold on while I check something, he left me hanging on for 25 mins and then put the phone down on me. He had told me that he must give me the Law dept phone number and I must ring the police and ask them to ring in. I refused as the police had already said that the policy is ebay rings the police once they have the log number. Surely ebay could solve this by checking the IP of the email that was used. or they could look at some of the goods that the user purchased. They could then see the delivery address. Afterall, I received no goods to my address or money to my paypal. The user only accepted paypal so it could also be traced that way.
I have even told ebay where they can find a user who is listing every item that dreamscancometruepat were selling. The 2 users lists are identical even the wording they use and again only accepting paypal. The user still selling, is in an area only 10 miles from me. Ebay doesnt want to know. I thought you couldnt set up 2 accounts from the same name and address. If thats the case, how did they manage it.
Why is it so difficult for ebay to sort out. I dont know what to do next. I would like to see it in the newspapers. I'm worn out with it all now. I have bought and sold on ebay for 7 years with 100% feedback, never been suspended or had debts.
Having sold items on ebay and had a couple of [problem]s pulled on me then tried to sort things out as a seller, you it seems from my experience have no rights at all (the buyer always wins). Use Ebay at your peril! it is not as reliable as some would have you believe.Secondly the charges are becoming expensive for such a site, as is postal charges.Again Seller Beware.
Hi All - I am having a problem with drivers.lounge from whom I purchased front grilles for my car and needed to change them as the wrong ones were sent. They repeatedly delayed responding to my request about best to deal with it and then had me send them to another buyer (I paid the postage) and have not replaced them or refunded my the original cost and postage. This has been going on for months now and they just keep coming back asking the same questions about the type of car etc. and so are clearly delaying. How do I raise this with ebay as it would appear to me that the seller has no intention of replacing the grilles and they now have the sale twice over??
You have to follow the complaints procedure as instructed by ebay it is easy to find out how to do this on the site, but if you need to speak to someone at ebay then be as clear as possible. As you generaly deal with an overseas call centre and all the Problems we all know they can pose.Good luck.
