Hi everyone I have a problem with Mcafee and am wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing. Our mcafee began playing up about a month ago and wouldn't let us use the internet. After calling their premium rate number we spoke to someone who informed us that there was a problem with the firewall and we had to disable it an then enable it which seemed to cure the problem even though it cost us £15 on the phone!!! Now my Mcafee says that I am not protected on the email and computer files and says that the detection file is 30 days old. It will not let me fix it. I have tried to get onto the Mcafee website but have not had any success so my only option is to call the premium rate number again. Has anyone else had any problems with them as I am considering reporting it to watchdog!! Any replies much appreciated xxx
Hi worried,my brother had this problem when he bought the macafee thing, whatever it did it was blocking everything else on his comp,he had to format the whole thing and he didnt want to put macafee back!!Personally I think it was some kinda problem in the internet explorer add ons which the macafee put on his comp, you could check your recent addons?
Mcafee is crap.... Its all sexed up by marketing to make you think its great when its not. Its a resource hogger and should be removed.
There are some far superior free products out there.
Avast for antivirus and Comodo for the firewall (Note the comodo antivirus is poor and should not be installed)
Mcafee is in the same league as Norton... And its the bottom league. Dont think that just because you have to pay or its bundled with something it makes it good. Its not.
Completly delete it from the computer & buy NOD. I use NOD and have never had any problems with it. It provides constant real time virus & spyware protection. For a firewall just use the Windows one and make sure you always update with the windows automatic updates.
Anti virus software is a pain in the @rse, it clogs your pc up and constantly requires updating which, of course, they charge you for the privledge!
I ditched mine and bought a Pico Yoggie, it is basically a mini computer which plugs in your USB port leaving your pc to get on with what it is meant to be doing and does not slow it down as it has a dedicated processor handling the virus protection now. Also it checks for updates everytime you connect to the internet and these are free.
Bought mine after they raved about it on the Gadget Show and have to say I am impressed. Costs about £80.
