4cashnow - V Gates Ltd - bizarre debit card manoeuvres
Hi Everyone,
I want to ask some advice on a debit card issue.
I took out a payday loan with the above company and the repayment was over 2 months. First payment went out fine last month but I have encountered serious financial problems since and have not been able to make the second payment. I have told them this and in negotiations to sort it out.
However, the interesting thing is, they have gone ahead and taken my payment on "a" debit card. Now, I cancelled my current card on Monday (lost), Lloyds TSB told me is was a "full" cancellation and nothing could be claimed against it. She also confirmed that there were no payments pending and V Gates were due to claim yesterday.
Very bizarre and annoying.
Also, they look to have claimed on an old debit card as the one they claimed against was cancelled back in Feb/Mar, I think.
Now, I have heard of these recurring mandate payments, like magazine subscriptions that just cant be cancelled and thought it might be that but the form I filled in for the original loan is called a "debit card authorisation mandate" and does not have anything on it that might look like a recurring payment, etc. I also have all the other forms and nothing on them looks like it too.
I have called V Gates and they have said that their payments are all pre-programmed in advance to collect. Strange, on a few levels, this might explain the old debit card used and it being collected, they should have stopped this pre-progreammed second payment, etc
I want to know, how are they able to claim money on a cancelled card, an old card and when they do not have my bank account details. All they have is my debait card details.
All quite weird. In my understanding nothing can be claimed against a stopped card, simple as that.
If it still relevent I would be asking for meeting with bank to explain. The old debit card if cancelled properly by bank should be useless. I would insist they refund if it is their error.
Might be worth having a different account that these people can't access. They are quite capable of setting up direct debit from old details! (they may have asked for them on original application)
