Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I received my BarclayCard and have struggled to pay it ever since, not because I don't have the money, but because they just won't take my money.
Initially I tried to use the BarclayCard login to pay my account but despite my best efforts, it wouldn't let me on and when I rang to have it sorted, I was advised that it would be working in 30mins, I've rung 3 or 4 times to have this done and to this day, it still doesn't work.
I rang them and tried to make a payment using the automated menu only to be told that because my Debit card was registered to my old address and my BarclayCard to my new address that I couldn't, so I tried to set up an automatic payment from my bank, there were so many card numbers I couldn't figure out which one to use, so I gave up on that idea.
I then managed to get hold of a human, who took my payment over the phone. This was great. So the next month, I thought to avoid the same hassle i'd just go straight through, only to be told that no, they can't take my payment, I explained everything and was then told to go through the automated menu, which I said but I can't, and then they suggested putting me through to my bank, which they put me through to the automated menu.
Very frustrated I made my first round of email complaints, I should note that I don't have a cheque book, and don't want one, and think it's my right to decide not to have one, and also I'm so busy I don't have time to go to the bank, it's time out of my day that I cannot afford (hence why my debit card was still in the wrong address) and being that there are several different methods of payment that 'should' work, I shouldn't have to.
I received cut and paste replies to my very serious complaints. So I decided to complain again via email and received a response saying that my complaint would be dealt with, I never heard anything back. So credit begin harrasing me (I should note that I have requested Direct Debits a couple of times by now) I tell them that my query is supposedly being dealt with, and they say there are no notes. So one girl tells me that she'll escalate it to her manager and not to worry, it'll be dealt with.
During this time I've tried calling Barclays to see if I can make a payment and they tell me no. Anyway, credit started calling me again last week, so I sent ANOTHER complaint email, this time I received, the EXACT same cut and paste response as previously, to which I was beyond horrified!
Then on sunday I received a text from Mercer Collections telling me that my account is in debt collection. This was the final straw for me and I rang up and demanded to speak with a supervisor, she told me that she was very sorry and that I can call collections to set up my direct debit and that as soon as I make a payment onto my card, it will not in anyway affect my credit rating, she credited last months late fees (which she should have reversed all of them) and assured me that everything would be sorted.
Anyway today I'm rung by Mercer at work to say that I need to pay my account as my credit rating is being affected. I explained the ENTIRE situation to the woman who, very politely considering how upset I was, told me that she'd set up my Direct Debit, but despite all of this, there were no notes from the woman on sunday and that my credit will still be affected.
I think this is completely unfair, my credit is being affected because BarclayCard wouldn't let me pay my account. The only thing that I requested from them is that they, set up a direct debit, take off payment protection (which took three attempts to have taken off), and to reverse the late fees that I think were unjustly added.
Instead, I've only just had somebody with any sort of initiative set up a direct debit, and I now have bad credit.
How do I get this sorted??? I don't think I warrant bad credit
This sounds very frustrating and I can't see why you can't make pay'ts using a person rather than their auto service. Hopefully, if there is a valid reason, someone else will say.
I suggest you sort the change of address as a priority.
If you've incurred any late pay't fees, these can be easily reclaimed once you have sorted out the initial problems. We'll deal with that later.
I suggest you make a written complaint to BC keeping it brief and to the point (and use paragraphs so it's legible ). Explain all the trouble you've had and ask why they are making it so hard for you to make a manual pay't.
Tell them you require that they immediately remove any adverse comments from your credit files, and confirm when this has been done.
Tell them you require that they refund any late payment fees which have been made to your a/c as a result of their intransigence.
Finish by saying you feel you should be compensated for the time, expense and aggravation this has caused. Maybe £100.
Give them 14 days to reply, the see how they respond.

Thanks for this, very helpful! It has been an incredibly frustrating process. Change of address has been sorted as un/fortunately, my bag was stolen and I had to replace my cards and withdraw money manually so I figured while I was at the bank withdrawing money, that I would change my address then.
