Default SEAT problems garage rip off??

    Hi
Hope somebody can help me? Sleepless nights and tears of fear 3 weeks later and still no car.
I took my car to my local garage/mot centre which i have been using for a few years now. It failed the mot due to wear and tear of brushes and arms. when i went to pick the car up which was just being finished off when i arrived they could not get it to start.

2 days later they still had no joy so they called SEAT dealer (IBIZA) and they informed them that it was a common fault on this particicular car and year that the link on the timing belt had slipped off and was just coincidence that it happenened in the garage.

I called SEAT dealer who confirmed this and said that a special repair/part pack had been specially put together for this reason and if they did the job then it would cost approx. £300 and a couple of hours to carry out the work. I asked if the garage would be ok to carry the work out and they didnt think there would be a problem!!

another 3 days later the garage have told be that they are having problems getting a seal off to get to the engine and that when they spoke to seat and asked if they would do job they refused?? why I do not know but i will be going to visit seat dealer tomorrow to see if this is true. the garage have said that they will continue to do the repair but they have not quoted me a price and said that they would not be charging me a large amount of money!

I am at the end of my tether I just do not know what to do, who to turn to, or my rights, can anyone please offer me some advice?

I dont think the garage would rip me off as they know I am a single parent student nurse and have always charged me the minimum but i dont trust them
    with my car now

    many thanks

having looked at some other forums it seems that this is a common fault!
Have sent an email to watchdog as someone suggested. Is SEAT at fault
for not recalling. I brought my car from SEAT originally?
    thanks

    Thats nice.

The garage is trying to help you, after all, it's not their fault the car failed whilst they had it for an MOT.

They are trying to fix it for you, but they are struggling a bit. You already were a returning customer to them and they have advised they will not be charging you a lot of money.

So what do you do? You come on here, use the phrase "Rip Off" in the title and say you don't thrust them and e-mail Watchdog.

Unless there is something you have omitted to tell us, I think that is a bit unfair.

I agree with Hammy, but he is not the most tactfull of posters.

If this in an inherent fault with that car/model, and Seat have said so, then you would be wise to ask Seat to reimburse you the cost of the repair and on failure to do so, sue Seat for the cost of the repair.

Actually I emailed watchdog about Seat not about the garage!!!
apparently it is a fault that has now got modified parts to replace the faulty ones!!!
Also I was asking a question (garage rip off???) Yes the garage was trying to help but not doing a very good job of it as they had my car for FOUR weeks and never called me even though I asked them to with any progress.
They also admitted to taking on a job that they should not have and charged me £400 for completing it, but the dealer SEAT quoted me £350.

I dont think I was being that harsh do you?

Well, Seat, or is that VW.............. Anyway all manufacturers modify there designs, parts and available spare parts, some revisions are cosmetic, some durability, no one instigates a recall unless it safety related. Cam belts are, unfortunately not safety related, they are generally a service item. Some manufacturers have extended terms on commonly failing parts, some pay 100%, some pay 0%, some pay somewhere in between. It's still not the fault of the poor sod MOT'ing it.

How on earth can you blame the garage for having your car for 4 weeks and not ringing you, presumably your telephone makes outgoing calls as well, ring them. If any garage had my car longer than 2 day's I'd be ringing them daily and then hourly.

I would suppose they took the job on to help you out, this is all the thanks they get.

Sounds to me like you have been ripped off alright. Always be weary of any garage that omits to mention the ACTUAL cost before you agree to any work. They didn't seem to know what they were doing, yet charged MORE than the main agent?

Sorry you feel insulted by some member(s). This is normal with this and every forum I have been on. Someone gets on their high horse and starts judging people they know nothing about. Not everyone is like that, although this particular forum does seem to have more than its fair share of people who know very little, but talk an awful lot.
