Book Stamped - No Service actually given!! Car problem now!
I bought a car registered in 2001, three months a go from a garage that was supposedly MOT'd and Serviced before we picked it up. Today after hearing grinding when breaking we took it to Kwikfit to let them have a look. Just received a call from them telling us the front breaks have ahad pads replaced on worn shoes, the back breaks have cylinders thats have been leaking for a few months so have contaminated the shoes, discs and pads and that it will cost nearly £500 to repair!!
They also confirmed that the break issues should have been picked up in the "service" that the garage told us they gave the car. Obviosuly not impressed with the garage. I called them and they have told me that "they are too busy to help right now" and are now telling me that they "dont remember selling me the car!" nor are they even entertaining that they gave a service, though we took it back as the service light came on as we drove off the forecourt and they then apparently gave the service - more like just turned the light off!
We have confirmation of a full service (got the stamp to prove it) and just this second they have backed down and said that they only done an oil service!!!!! Surely this aint right !! Any advice on where i stand or what i can do is really really really appreciated!

I'm afraid I would not trust Kwik-Fit and their diagnosis. I say this from experience as a customer whose car I had just replaced the hydraulics and brakes on the rear was told by them (visiting them because her exhaust went), that her brakes were in a dangerous condition and needed the hydraulics and brakes replaced.
She accepted this and had the work done only to complain to me for a refund. On examination of the rear brakes, the replaced cylinders were the ones that I had fitted and marked, as I did with all parts I fitted.
She was refunded in full by Kwik-Fit after I made a complaint and threatened them with legal action.
Perphaps it was only this branch or their ways have changed now, but either have a look yourself or get another opinion from elsewhere, £500 is a lot of money.
I do still have all the paperwork.
There are many posts if you Google for it including this one:
i went to kwikfit with my old style mini cooper with what i thought was a brake problem...they did the free brake check on my car and were at it for about 2 hours...then they said my whole braking system was shot to hell and needed replacing, despite the fact that only a few months hence i had had brakes replaced....anyway,they said the cost for the work would be £735.85....i said "HELL NO!"...."I DIDNT ASK FOR YOUR PHONE NUMBER!".......so i took my mini to a garage who said my brakes were fine, and what was actually wrong with my car was the return spring on the brake peddle which was broken, which gave the impression the brakes did not work.....i got it fixed for fifty quid!!!
they wanted to charge me £735.85 ,i could rebuild the car for that!!.....they thought they could get one over on this little lady, but no chance!

You should take it back to the dealer you bought it from and get them to put all faults right at no cost to you, After first checking with a another garage on what is exactly wrong.; take it in for an MOT pre test somewhere and get them to do quick report for you.
